I’ve had the insomnia for a little over one week. I try not to take any meds like benadryl or tylenol pm. Im concerend that my lack of sleep is harming my baby. Has anyone else had troubles with insomnia early in their pregnancy?
It shouldn’t do. But it will be making you lethargic. Have you been to your doctor, he/she may have some ideas. I didn’t have this problem, I slept like a log! Even at the end. I hope you sleep properly soon, as you’ll have to take advantage of a full nights sleep. Once your little one comes you’ll be up through the night, but then if you already have one you’ll know this.

You should talk with your doctor, because you need your rest. Lack of sleep doesn’t necessarily mean your harming your child, but you may wearing yourself out, because you need the proper rest for the baby to get what he/she needs from you. Try taking a warm bath before bed time, and soup, that normally puts me straight to sleep and I’m only 7 weeks,

insomnia doesn’t harm the baby. only make you cranky.
unnecessary drugs to sleep may harm the baby.
try to do some activities to tire yourself out during the day - and that may help you sleep at night.
stay off caffiene (even black tea may be working against you)
also: talk to your OB about your concerns, because if you think it is better to take drugs than to be awake, you need to get a better handle on whats good/not good.

I am 23 weeks and I have not slept a full night in almost 2 weeks. It will not hurt the baby, he or she will sleep when it is needed. I am not taking anything for it because I have fears of meds causing autism. my doctor told me that it is just your body getting ready for a new born.

Hi, I’ve always suffered from insomnia and averaged just 2-3 hours per night whilst pregnant with my daughter…it sounds bad and made me feel awful but she was born healthy. She’s 6 months old now and a really strong, happy, healthy little girl.
Try not to worry about it, it will only make your insomnia worse.
f you want these are some tips on helping relieve insomnia, they sometimes work with me.
*Set your self a strict "bedtime" and "waking up time" and stick to it…try to avoid the bedroom at anytime apart from sleep time so that your body knows that the bedroom in the sleeping place.
*Have a bedtime routine; Start about an hour before bedtime by turning off electrical equipment such as TVs and computers (and don’t leave anything on standby in your room as this can interfere with sleep) have a nice relaxing bath and warm milky drink then change into what you normally wear to bed and read a book or listen to some relaxing music…maybe light some candles with a relaxing scent - just don’t nodd off and leave them burning!
*Avoid caffeine after 3pm (Although if you’re pregnant you’re probably avoiding it all together!)
*Put a few drops of lavender oil on a cloth and place it on your radiator, the fumes will be released by the heat and should help you sleep.
Good luck and congratulations on the pregnancy! x

Oh my gosh..I am 18 weeks and in the same boat as you!!! In the very beginning I was taking benadryl like every night!! Then I stopped because I found myself relying on it because it was the only thing helping me!! I have been over a month with no sleep and exhaustion. Monday night I had a migraine and couldnt sleep so I took Tylenol PM for the first time and it worked wonders helping me sleep and took away my headache. I think the sleep less nights are something we have to deal with, because there is nothing safe enough to take every single night unfortunatley!! =( Last night I was up all night again, I just laid up and felt the little rascal squirm. It should go away I wish you the best..But you arent the only one!! =)
