my doctor recommended benedryl. it contains the same ingredient as otc sleep aids but is less expensive if you buy the generic. he told me the only side effect of using it is mild dehydration.

Hi! I suggest Melatonin. It really works, and is not over the counter. You can purchase it at health and vitamin stores for under $10. ( I live in BC, Canada and pay$8.99 before taxes.)
** Some places do sell it over the counter, which is silly**
Your brain produces melatonin which is the chemical that makes you sleep. Taking melatonin generally does not make you fall asleep instantly or make you pass out. It generally takes 10-20 minutes before you fall asleep. During those 10-20 minutes, the melatonin stimulates your brain to release its own melatonin. So, you become sleepy, then sleep!!! Enjoy your sleep!
:o) Talk you your family doctor if you are unsure.

if i may suggest, before trying any diazapam, please follow few sleep better tips, like avoid any stressful activity, just before going to bed, simple stroll is nice, try reading relaxing book, warm milk is great, try listening soothing music, write whatever is restricting your sleep, after jotting down your problems, tell yourself, you will be able to handle the problems better after sleeping peacefully. Sleep Well, sweet dreams:)

Benedryl is really good - also a mug of hot milk - which all say tastes yucky - so put some sweetener and vanilla to make it taste good.
When milk is heated some of the milk sugar is converted to tryptothan - a natural sleep agent.
No one knows when they fall asleep - in fact a person needs to be asleep 15 min or more before their body will realize it. Close your eyes and lay in a dark room. Turn off the TV and radio.. Lay still. Think of a pleasant place in great detail. (to avoid thinking of unpleasant stuff).
good luck

Insomnia (sleeplessness) is due to stress, dietary and medical
problems. By making small lifestyle changes like having a fixed
daily routine, relaxing and eating properly, insomnia can be
cured. I found the information at useful
for getting sleep.
