Samantha asked:
For whatever reason, I find it so hard to sleep anymore. I have done everything possible to try to go to sleep. I have taken sleeping pills to try to get on a sleeping track but as soon as I stop the pills the sleeplessness returns. I don’t know what my problem is. I have been soo tired I couldn’t move and still I would lay awake for hours. It just seem so hopeless. When I do actually fall asleep its atleast 3-4am and I am so drained the next morning. I have no problems with naps during the day but when it comes to night…I just can’t go to sleep. Help Me!

Some sleep medications when you stop taking them, they can cause rebound insomnia. (ex. ambien CR). You need to start relaxing early each night. No caffeine 5 hours before bedtime. Read a book while in bed every night before sleep. This can associate a pattern between the brain to wind down each night. Its also easier to sleep if your room is cooler. 72 degrees Fahrenheit or less. Try meditating or counting your breaths. If this doesn’t work, talk to your doctor. Perhaps your doctor can prescribe something more mild, with no effects such as rebound insomnia? Last but not least, you could try working midnights?

If you’re still young, that’s unusual.
But maybe your insomnia is caused by stress. You have a personal problem which is bugging you. So try to invite your best friend over for a slumber party and confide to her. Just talk it out with her. It might do the trick. However, if that is not your case, then maybe you should consult a doctor.
Some home remedies I know are: drinking a glass of warm milk before sleeping, reading a good book to tire your eyes, meditate or read the Bible. Also, if you’ve seen Senator Obama talk of this problem of sleeping late in the Oprah Show, he wrote a book. So maybe you can write your diary or journal. It makes you productive, isn’t it?
