There are a lot of options. I have tried all of the prescribed sleeping pills and none worked for me. I use Tylenol PM and it works wonders. I have 2 kids, so at the end of the day I usually have aches and pains, and the Tylenol has the pain killer and the sleep aid! You might try a cup of warm milk, or some sleepy time tea, try a hot bath by candle light(aroma therapy candles for relaxation) those are the ones I use!

Try exercise first. How about a stable relationship. What about a less stressful job/school/marriage?
Exercise regularily, but not right before bed.

Stay away from caffeine. Do something physical during the day. There are a few decent herbal teas you can take before bed - Skullcap, Hopps. Kava kava is supposed to be relaxing too.

You could try melatonin, a over the counter product. it doesn’t put you to sleep, it just seems to make it possible to fall asleep. I have had problems falling asleep for like 10 years, and this is the first thing that has worked.

never eat or drink after 8 pm, clean or exercise but early in the day, leave all your worries at the bedroom door and if that doesnt work count the sheep jumping over your bed.

    Insomnia

Here’s my list of things to try getting a restful nights sleep, In no particular order:

Take a hot bath or shower
Have a glass of milk or a bit of cheese
Have a cup of chamomile tea
    Write in a journal
Listen to something soothing like Enya
    While recommendedulate your breathing with deep breaths counting them in 1 2 3 4 then hold 1 2 then out 1 2 3 4
Start at your toes and flex each musclle individually, this takes practice and patience.
Start at your toes and imagine your body filling with dream energy, imagine each toe filling with sleep before you move up into your ankle. Just keep going until your whole body is filled with sleepy thoughts.
Get some massage oil or hand lotion and rub your feet , neck and hands.

I’m sure you can come up with your own thoughts about things that remind you of rest. There is an herbal “pill” that I really like. It’s called calms forte. It’s over the counter and always helped me. My chiropractor who was into homeopathic medicine recoomended it to me.
