Can the contraceptive pill cause insomnia ?
02 Feb 2009
Niagra Gash, Goddess in waiting asked:
I have been taking the contraceptive pill LEVLAN and am starting to suffer increasing periods of insomnia.
I am so incredibly tired it’s not funny and it’s starting to affect my work but I struggle to go to sleep and then when I do sleep it’s only for between 2 or 3 hours. I have very little energy and I’m struggling to maintain any level of coherent conversation.

Could it be the Pill that’s doing this and what can I do that will help me to sleep?

it wouldn’t surprise me as birth control pills are linked with a lot of harmful side effects.
I googled it and came up with this article:

Erm…..staying up ’til all hours chatting to your man might be the cause….
Of course, I’m taking a stab in the dark.
The upside is, at least you’ll be on UK time, hee hee

It could very well be the reason why you are not sleeping, although I am thinking that the excitement of starting to count down the days that are getting less and less now might have more to do with it!!
LOL…you should try the tablets that I’m on !! Mix that with an active mind that struggles to shut down each night you would get even less sleep ! hahaha
warm milk and honey before bed babes…give that a shot.

According to the manufacturer, no but if you are on anything else the 2 drugs could be reacting and causing the insomnia.
Also everyone is different and if only a teeny tiny percent of the population suffer from a side effect it does not have to be published but the info will be in the Blue Book that all pharmacists have behind the counter. Get them to look it up for you….pharmacists will know more about drugs then your doctor since they just studied drugs for 7 years. Here’s the link too, good luck hun!!

that sucks..I don’t know.. may be you could go without the pill for a month and see if anything changes? I’d go with Maple Leaf’s answer, ask a pharmacist or your gynecologist
I’ve been on the pill Yasmin for 5 years straight (I have to for health reasons) and I’ve never experienced any side effects, I’ve been to several gynecologists and I’ve been told it was the pill with the lowest dose and the least side effects. its supposed to be a great alternative for women who experience adverse effects from other oral contraceptives because it contains drospirenone, whatever that is lol. Better to ask your doctor though
hope u get better!

Sorry your having problems it can really be awful to not be able to sleep. It could be the pill I tried them once and had a similar reaction (not same type of pill) , I also became an emotional basket case.

Create a video blog…instantly.
It very well may…your best bet would be to contact the doctor that prescribed them for you…they do make lower dosages of pills…you may have one that too strong for you personally…it also could be that your hormones need to adjust and it will eventually take care of itself….
either way better safe than sorry…best to find out…
good luck!!

I do hope you’re married. If not, mayhap it is your conscious that is troubling you.
