Do these symptoms sound like insomnia or stress?

At night I have a lot of trouble falling asleep. I usually can’t fall asleep until at least 2 in the morning, and I have to wake up at six to get ready for school. In the day I am really lethargic and tired. I think I may be having trouble with sleeping because I am stressed (I am a senior in high school, haven’t heard from any colleges ect) but Im not sure if I cant sleep because I am stressed or if I have insomnia or something. Any ideas?

sounds like stress if you’ve never had it before, even though sleep disorders can be a sign of other mental illness.

It could be your age. A lot of people that are in their late teens and early twenties, go to sleep later. Stress can definitely cause lack of sleep also. If you feel that it’s really affecting you, you should see a doctor. It doesn’t sound like Insomnia since you said you fall asleep. Insomniacs can’t sleep at all. A doctor would be able to answer any of your questions and will find solutions so that you can get a full nights sleep. You should try going to bed earlier and make a schedule so that you can complete your work.

I do that. Im 22 and I work a lot and do what normal guys my age do. I’ve noticed I have the hardest time sleeping when Im upset, worried, hungry or even bored. I felt that way when I was a senior in highschool. I was worried about life after school. I didnt know what do expect. I went to college for a about six months and started working and through that I got to know tons of people who inspired me to just slow down about the whole school thing and just stop and realize wow Im only 19 I need to chill. my whole life is ahead of me. my friends are all in college and they dont even know what they want to do with there lives. stress and anxiety can cause tons of other symptoms that model other illnesses. my stress and anxiety actually caused me to have these symptoms and go the er :high blood pressure, chest pains, deppression, shortness of breath, stomach ache, headache, trouble sleeping. just relax enjoy being your age cause you can only be a senior in highschool once and then you will have to look back the rest of your life and say man why didnt I just have fun being a senior. also excersize and physical activity makes me sleep way better.

You can have stress-induced insomnia. If you’re having that much trouble sleeping, check out this article (linked). It should help you sleep. There are some books on the subject listed under “resources” if you still need more help.
