The only thing that works for me is intense exercise, at least an hour, at least 5 days a week. Otherwise, I sleep only 5 hours a night.

Lie in bed in a very dark room, close your eyes and slowly count from 1 up. I guarantee you will eventually fall asleep…

This cure does require you to be a certain legal age. The nights I can’t sleep I take a shot of vodka. I hate to get drunk so this is good if your close to being a teetotaler and it’s really not that much. It helps to get to sleep. Another technique I use is when I try to sleep I focus on the tips of my toes and relax them to the point where they feel like if you just woke up. Slowly move up, if you do this too fast you’re thinking to fast and the anxiety will return. About the waist time focus on the waist and the fingers and arms. Center in to the lungs for last. At that last point you want to slow your breathing really down. When you slow your breathing down your brain and heart begin to think you’re asleep. The body is relaxed and then the breathing slows down and it tricks your brain to shutting of. It takes time but better to fall asleep within an hour instead of no sleep at all.

Personal experience. My mind never stops working at night with stories or day dreams. When I sleep most times my brain will have to reach pure exhaustion before letting me sleep. It works some of the time to wait for that but some nights I cannot make it stop for hours and this has worked for me.
