Purplepill.com, AstraZeneca’s brand website for their heartburn treatment Nexium, generated the most traffic in the second quarter of 2008 compared to other pharmaceutical marketing sites, according to comScore.

The site had more than one million unique visitors, up 55 percent from last year.

Takedas diabetes drug Actos ranked second, with 855,000 visitors; and Sanofi-Aventis insomnia medication Ambien took third place with 756,000.

AstraZeneca has aggressively marketed Nexium this year, running approximately twice as much online display advertising in Q2 as either of its major competitors, Prevacid and Aciphex.

AstraZeneca is a large Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company headquartered in London.
