Glad you found ...
Glad you found something that helps at least some! Beats no sleep at all right? I tried Remeron years ago for depression (not insomnia) and it made me sleep for 48 hours straight. I dont know how it would effect me now. I was recently prescribed Temazepam a month ago but no luck.
We seem to have so much in common with meds making us sick. I cant tolerate any of the tricyclics, SSRIs, Wellbutrin, Trazadone, SNRIs like Effexor, you name it. I am finally finding some relief with abilify.

You have to look at ...
You have to look at what's causing your depression and work from there. All those meds make everything worse, at least for me. The only thing I take now if Klonopin at night.

I stopped taking those other meds a long time ago. I'll say this, they do solve certain problems, but create others. You may not feel depressed, but you don't feel necessarily happy either. While there's no legal drug that makes you feel happy, these drugs just make you feel like you're not quite there.

You're getting ...
You're getting prescribed Chloral Hydrate and you still can't sleep. Damn, you must have some serious insomnia. I thought that stuff was supposed to knock you out. I didn't even know they prescribed it anymore.

Remeron does work, but you're right about the dose. If you take high does of it, your body releases more adrenaline which compensates for the drowsiness.

If I were you, unless you're deeply depressed, stay away from SSRI's. You seem like a nice girl, otherwise I would be writing this.

Netty,
I had ...
Netty,
I had insomnia when I was young, and saw a doctor who gave me sleeping pills. Then my insomnia slowly got worse and I ended up on Remeron for 5 years. I didn;t get any better, and still needed sleeping pills. THEN i realised that I had been a long term sleeping pill addict and was in tolerance withdrawal. PLEASE get off all the drugs. Coming of Remeron made me so very sick, for months. But once off all the drugs your sleep will finally come back. It will take about 6 months.

Hi,

No, insomnia ...
Hi,

No, insomnia is not a great thing :). I suffer with insomnia issues, too, and I have just started taking Mirtazapine (Remeron). It slept pretty well last night, but it's still kind of a hit and a miss. I don't have any ED's, so I can't give you any experiential advice there. I can say that I have used Prozac in the past, and it helped my depression and anxiety. I am currently taking Lexapro (20mg) and Mirtazipine (15mg) for sleep.

Take Care,
Colleen
