Insomnia
31 Jul 2010
This video is a recording of a live manipulation of two combined images. One image is of the logo for Rozerem, a medication to combat insomnia, a condition suffered by myself. The drug was ineffectual in helping me. The logo has been heavily abstracted in Photoshop. Behind this is a second image of a digital print featuring purposeful chromatic aberration. The unfocused quality of this second image is a metaphor for sleep deprivation. Live manipulation of the resultant combined image was carried out using Photoshop via the many adjustments provided by the software. Thus the throbbing and cycling colors of a sickness brought on by sleeplessness is captured in the process of Photoshop as performance. In addition to Photoshop, Snagit was used to record the screen. Please note, beyond these two programs, no other equipment or software was used; there was no camera or editing software used in the creation of my video. The source images and video were both created in 2010.
