I have been having a hard time going to sleep recently; my mind just go's a million miles an hour, thinking about everything. I'm on Zoloft 200mg (antidepressant) and It does help with anxiety and calms me at night as well. My question is though; is it better to take 2 tylenol sleep aids, or get a prescription from a doctor? If prescription, what kind of sleep aid for insomnia is good for anxiety and obsessiveness at night? Personal stories would be great!
Seroquel has worked for me for three years without my having to increase the dose (100 mg). I also use Restoril, 30 mg, for those days, about three days a month, when I need extra mind calming.
I also take 200 mg of Zoloft. For me, it does 80% for depression, 70% for OCD, 0% for panic (claustrophobic situations), and 0% for racing thoughts.
I am Bipolar II, so the Seroquel takes care of mania and the racing thoughts that go with it.

Hi…avoid anything else..when you are on one medication you should not take too many others they can interact…drugs are chemicals and they are strong…if you are on ZOloft take it in the morning..as one of the side effects of these group of drugs is insomnia….if you have been having stress try to shot down..if your job is stressful take some time off…give yourself sometime to recover..exercise is wonderful…join a gym…avoid caffeine, tea, cola drinks and choclate…they are stimulatory and keep you up….+ personal stories…I had a very stressful time….i was on my own after leaving my country…i had an abusive employer and abusive people around who bullied me and tortured me a lot…I was diagnosed with a seroius illness after taking a tablet that caused significant bleeds in my body as a side effect…i left the job..tried to understand about the nature of abuse and bully…tried to develop strategies to combat being a victim of any nasty person..i took antidepressant…i adopted a child with lots of love and I tried to exercise..read helpful books..such as the giant within of anthony robins and listening to his CDs…tried to talk about my pains and let them go…time will help…tried to start new degree..tried to look forward to future..try to gain goals..short term long term….tried to eat lots of walnuts…to help good nutrition for my brain….

As I recommended to someone else with insomnia, the safest thing to do is to tell your doctor. There are diseases that have insomnia as a side effect.
Until then, you can try melatonin, a natural hormone that's available at drug stores without a prescription. Melatonin is the chemical your brain naturally produces to make you sleepy.
You can take two 3 mg. tablets like a sleeping pill a half hour before going to sleep.
You can also use melatonin to "reset" your body's sleep cycle. Take half of a 3 mg. tablet several days in a row, 4-5 hours before you want to go to sleep. This will reset your sleep cycle to make you sleepy at bedtime.
A lot of sleeping pills have undesirable side effects.
Some people have gotten total relief from anxiety and obsessiveness with phenytoin.
