Try using "melatonin." It is available from General Nutrition Center or other health/vitamin stores. Take one tab 30 min. before bed.

It is a natural product that your body produces during the day. As we get older, we produce less and, therefore, sleep less. It has been studied by NASA for astronauts and it is also used by some blind people to help them with their circadian rhythms.

I use to work nights and had trouble sleeping during the day, so I took Melatonin. It is a natural sleep aid, you can get at any drug store like Wal-Mart, Rite Aid. Get the 3 mg and take up to 3. It has no side affect. Good luck.

Drink hot milk! It works for me. My great aunt told me to give it a try. Also, cut back on caffinated beverages, which you are probably using to "wake yourself up in the morning"!

You have to put yourself on a sleep cycle and stick to it no matter what. Exercise too because you need to make sure you are tired. There are meds out there to help as well to get you on a cycle.

I wish there were - I suffer from insomnia and have tried everything in the book. Right now I take herbal supplements, melatonin and a sleep aid every night. My doctor refuses to prescribe prescription sleep aids - apparently many doctors are against it. I've tried ambien, xanex, and lunesta. Xanex rocks - but is highly addictive. I wish there were an easy answer - I'd love to be the spokesperson for it!

Benadryl, it works for me. I take two and read for an hour and am out like a light. Good luck, insomnia sucks, had it my whole life and benadryl is all that really works consistently.

One thing to try is after 20 min. of not being able to fall asleep in your bed, go to another room and read a book or watch TV until you feel sleepy. If you stay in your bed when having trouble going or staying asleep, your subconcious will associate it with your bed and you will continue to have insomnia. I'd at least give it a shot before going to a Dr. or taking OTC or Prescriptions…

Insomnia is worse for some than others. If you don’t sleep a few nights a month I don’t even consider that insomnia. I have suffered from severe and persistent insomnia for over 6 months now. I’ll go for as long as 3 days without any sleep, then when I finally do sleep it will be for 3 or 4 hours. This happens at LEAST weekly.

Insomnia is ruining my life. Ruining relationships. Probably will lose my job soon if this continues. Also, my Doc says I’m going to have a heart attack due to the high blood pressure, racing pulse, and out-of-control cortisol level, all due to not sleeping.

The next person who gives me some advice about sleep (which I’ve already heard and already tried) will get a swift kick in the ass. Melatonin, herbals, OTC sleep-aids (such as Unisom), THREE different prescription medicines, no caffeine, exercise, meditaion… done it all. I would LOVE to have your regular insomnia. I’ve combined Rx meds with OTC sleep-aids and melatonin and not slept a minute.

It is like whatever part of my brain that makes me fall asleep stopped working. I slept an aaaaaaamazing 4 hours last night.
