Signs of Insomnia How do you know if you are having insomnia? When you are tossing and turning in your bed continuously and waiting for morning to arrive, I do not have to tell you that those are signs of insomnia.

5 Helpful Tips for Insomnia Clear your mind and do not worry about anything. By early evening or 4 hours before you sleep, do not worry about a single thing.

If stray thoughts start to appear in your mind, divert those thoughts by looking at other physical stuffs such as your ceiling. Look for cracks on it and decide the next color your wish to paint your ceiling with. Such mundane stuff will dull your senses and allow you to fall asleep easier.

One more way to cure insomnia is to listen to music. Listen to those without any vocals with soothing music. This way, your mind will be hypnotized by the music and you will have a easier rest.

The third method will be to take a warm bath a couple of hours before sleeping. You do not have to clean yourself thoroughly, just allow the warm water to drip onto you.

By moving your hands all over your body to clean yourself will increase brain activities. If possible, soak yourself in the bath tub and close your eyes with the soothing music in the background.

Drink a small cup of lavender or camomile tea before landing in bed. They are good for inducing the sleepy feeling in you.

Alternatively drink warm milk as a replacement for tea. Drinking suitable beverages will allow you to have better sleep.

Another useful tip for insomnia is to having a gentle back massage. If you are married, get your spouse to do a back massage for you. However, do not discuss any issues and if possible keep the conversation close to zero.

Play music in the background and keep conversation to the minimum. Conversations, especially those related to your problems, will only increase your alertness.

A last final advice is to maintain a regular bedtime routine. If you are used to sleeping at 4am in the morning, there is no way for you to sleep at 10pm at night. Slowly tune and sleep an hour earlier each day and you will find that it is a breeze to sleep at 10pm!

Background noise such as a fan or air cleaner helps me to sleep better. Using lavender oil also helps for relaxation, not eating a large dinner, reading a book before bedtime, taking a warm bath and having a comfortable temperature in the house (not too warm). I also drink a tea called Celestial Seasonings Tension Tamer Tea (chamomile tea works good too) if I am having trouble getting to sleep because of stress. I don’t have too many problems after retirement getting to sleep if I don’t drink anything with caffeine in it during the day. I’ve also read that staying up and being on the computer can stimulate brain waves and make it harder to sleep, think that there is something to it.
