Please no drugs or pills, just home remedies that can help with occasional insomnia. Thanks!
Do not drink caffeine if you can possibly avoid it. If you NEED it, only in the morning.
Make sure your meal schedule is reasonable. Don’t eat past 7pm.
Don’t nap during the day.
Don’t look at a TV, Computer, or anything else very bright for a half an hour or so before trying to sleep.
Make sure you are comfortable in your bed.
Try counting. Just keep counting. To 5000, if you have to. If you make it to 5000 see a doctor.
Breathe deeply and try to clear your mind before sleeping.
Excercise during the day to release energy.
Some people read in bed and that makes them sleepy.
Hope these tips help.

So, I have insomnia and a lot of times I end up not falling asleep at night. What would be the best natural remedy for this? And is it okay to miss some nights of sleep If you function normally?
- Try taking 3 mg melatonin 6-7 hours before bedtime. You can find it in the vitamin aisle.
- Drink chamomile tea before bedtime
- Exercise during the day, but NOT at night
- Read for 30 minutes before going to bed
- Do not use the computer an hour before bed
- Avoid caffeine, especially in the afternoon and evening
- Try to fall asleep for 20 minutes. If you can’t, get up and do something calming for 10 minutes. Then try again for 20 minutes. Do this until you fall asleep.
Missing sleep is not okay. A person needs 8 or 9 hours of sleep every night or else they have a sleep deficit. When you have a sleep deficit you don’t live a full life - you miss out on a lot because despite what you think, you’re not functioning at 100%. This is putting yourself at a huge risk for accidents and health problems. I don’t know how you function normally if you’re missing a lot of sleep. If you’re not even tired and you’re missing a lot of sleep, that’s a totally different story…do you have a lot of energy and just can’t sleep, like you don’t even need to?

I’m 12 years old and almost every night i find myself staring at the ceiling and struggling to fall asleep, are there and home remedies for insomnia in teens/kids, or sleep medications?
Edit: Once again I’m 12 so i can’t use anything like ambien or lunesta!!
Sleep meds are really for short-term use– a week or so and no more as they can then cause the very thing they are supposed to help. Yes many ppl take them for years and then it is more psychological than possibly real help.
Better one so young not resort to drugs for this.
A small bit of protein and carb is thought to help as a bedtime snack as it tides you over till morning w/out hunger. Also warm milk really does help some ppl–Calcium /Magnesium help
Green Tea has ingredients that help
Lavender in a small pillow and close to your nose will help relax you . Be careful of most herbs as they can be powerful and you need a lot of knowledge to decide what to take.
A warm bath
Turning down the lights about an hour before bed will help trigger the serotonin to start shifting the brain toward sleep .Read or do a craft project.
Avoid Scary or action TV. No homework, talking on the phone and gossiping, no exercising. All these rev the body up not work toward rest.
If you lay in bed for 15 min. and do not fall asleep, get up and do something like read again until you feel sleepy then go back to bed.
Go to bed at the same time nightly no matter what day–sets up sleep hygiene and the body will regulate itself. Get up at the same time too. Avoid long naps as it re-sets your sleep clock.
Turn on a fan–no blowing on you for white noise and it will block out sounds around you so it helps you to lower your brain activity
Meditate
Pray
Fantasize about a happy place and ppl
Write out a Gratefulness Journal
Keep it slightly cool as ppl sleep better cooler than warmer.
Check your pillow for comfort and support
Better sleeping
