I am 23 years old and I have been diagnosed by a rheumatologist with fibromyalgia. The drugs he prescribed are helping, but I still have pain in all of my muscles. My other symptoms include muscle weakness, difficulty sleeping, fatigue, dizziness, and IBS with constipation. The constipation is even worse with the meds.

I've had fibro for several years. Glad to hear you are interested in more natural options. I tried all the prescription drugs the Dr. gave me and most of the time they didn't help and the side effects were awful. I decided to go natural. The first thing to get is Nature's Way Alive! multivites. They are very good and have everything in them to support immunity. A good calcium/magnesium supplement of 2-1 ratio, malic acid,5 htp, msm, sam e, digestive enzymes, probiotics, coq 10, milk thistle, vit c, alpha lipoic acid, valerian root, olive leaf extract, fish oil, evening primrose oil. Light exercise as tolerated, meditation and yoga are very helpful too. Vitacost.com is a good place to get your supplements. Cheap and good shipping. You have to be very careful during cold and flu season as getting sick is magnified in fibro folks. The vites I mentioned have a green food in them and mushrooms for immunity. But should you get sick or even feel like you are or know you were exposed, get an elderberry extract, zicam or cold eze. Oregano oil is nature's antibiotic and will kill alot of viruses, olive leaf is much the same. Osillo (a homeopathic remedy you can get at vitacost cheaper that anywhere else) is great. The # 1 flu remedy. Just 3 doses and you're good. If you still get sick then you know is bacterial and not viral, then use the oregano oil and olive leaf. I know this may sound like a lot but you have to try and see what works best for you. Give it at least 3 months to see how you feel. And lastly, Do all the research and learn all you can. There are some good sources of info online and some companies are coming out with multi vitamins geared for fibro people. I hope this helps some.

I don't have insomnia but I do have lots of passion flower and wondered if you can use it as a tea?

Yes dry it and use it as a tea. It is very good for relaxing too. You can also soak the dried herb in vodka and make a tincture.

Last few days found it difficult to sleep tried few remedies to help but not working can anyone help?

Taking stuff can make the problem worse in the long term as you come to rely on pills.

Boring but the usual often helps..

Nothing stimulating before bed ie TV, internet, video games.

A warm bath (try with lavender oil/bubble bath etc).

If you have someone who can give you a massage/head or foot rub etc that will help.

Giving up caffeine (tea/coffee/dark chocolate).

Learn to meditate.

When you are trying to sleep stop thinking "I must sleep, I must sleep". Relax, daydream, meditate.

Buy a notepad to jot down anything that's on your mind before bedtime. Make rough notes on what you did that day to save your mind going through it all when you try and sleep.

Good luck!

I have two friends who are going through withdrawal. ONe can attend a methadone clinic and the other is on her own, what can they do to get to sleep -the insomnia is severe.

unfortuneately, there really isn't much you can do. I have gone thru methadone withdrawal and so have many of my friends. Sleep is something you won't get much of at all. And, if you do sleep you're often plagued with nightmares. Try taking some valium or benzodiazapine class drugs– but use them very sparingly, the idea is to detox not switch to a different drug. A doctor may be able to prescribe a sleep aid. Also lots of hot baths help a little. But the only real way to get sleep is to just get thru the withdrawal.(I know, easier said than done) Also one more thing; if your friends are on methadone clinics and are doing a voluntary detox, I suggest taking it very very slow. this will make it much easier. For example: my ex-husband was on 80 mgs and took just over a year to detox. He still suffered from insomnia but it was not too bad.

Been having sleepless nights these days. Does taking too much sleeping pills cause side effects?

I have sleep problems due to anorexia, but I've found that the more water I drink throughout the day, the easier it is to sleep. Sometimes music helps, sometimes it just distracts. Boring books help. Basically, just do your best to make your body feel relaxed.

I have a 1 year old and 2 year old. They sleep well through the night. However, when it is time to actually go to bed they are all wound up and it takes me on average an hour to actually get them to sleep. Is there any natural remedies to help make them sleepy (ex. warm milk)?

no sweets what so ever 2 hours before sleep. i found story time books always made them sleepy, not to much action picture books, where a 2 year old might ask questions, keep it simple for the one year old too. Then once their asleep, yippy free time, thats what i use to think and still do, they are 16,14,12 and 3years old, never ends god bless they are treasures.

I have had M.E for 5 years now and it is a lot better than it was. My Major problem is not being able to get to sleep, staying asleep and the quality of sleep. I live in the UK and my doc will only give me a weeks supply of Zimovane (Zopiclone) at a time. So, I drag myself about for most of the time. Herbal treatments don’t work and I’ve tried Melatonin. I was just given Amitriptyline but that didn’t help either. Please help!

Well I think if amitriptylline failed you should try escitalopram, 5 mg at night (lexapro). Antidepressants tend to normalise sleep patterns without producing dependence unlike zimovane. It should also jiz you up energy wise . It should help with the sleep almost immediately and with the energy in about 2 months.
…its no use getting into zimovane etc as after about a year you’ll find they don’t work, you’ll be irritable and you’ll find yourself going to 2 doctors getting prescriptions cos the original guy won’t up your dose.

Besides melatonin you can find other remedies in web searches for “natural sleep aids” and “natural sleep remedies”.

yep, its 2am and im sitting here at the computer, not expecting an answer because most of you normal human beings are doing what god intended us to do: SLEEP AT NIGHT.

which leads to my question: I have serious insomnia issues and I am looking for natural sleep remedies. I’m to the point where sleeping pills no longer work for me and they make me feel too droggy or i sleep until 5 in the afternoon. This is totally messing up my life.

warm milk doesnt help (including the fact that it makes me wanna gag) so i really need something powerful but natural.

thanks in advance

Try Melatonin, it can be found in the vitamin aisle, take one and about 15-20 minutes later you get kinda floaty, and sleepy. works for me.
