i know about warm milk, anything else, natural cure please no drugs

I have sleeping problems.
it takes me like 2 hours to get too sleep when I turn
off all the lights.
and I have sleep apnea.

what I’ve been doing recently, is reading.
I think that gets me sleepy because if I read for a long
time, I get tired.

or if I exercise a little before, sometimes doing a lot of work
like cleaning your room, homework, or exhausting yourself
will get you tired.

I don't suffer from Insomnia per se but I know lots of people who do. I find it hard to get to sleep and plainly don't like sleeping even though its part of life, I'd rather be active than sleep.
beautyofthesea : I also suffer from Sleep Apnea …. sometimes i wake myself up cause I've been holding my breath for so long, I'm almost out of breath and my heart if pounding, its not good and very scary !

As much as I love my sleep I find it very hard to get to sleep and often find myself waking up at odd times throughout the night.
Hope your not expecting to sleep too much the weekend xx

I've had high Highs and very low lows concerning mood, It goes from Hyperactivity to depression for any period of time and changes at any time. .After doctors and pyschologists have thown, anti-depressents, sleeping pills and even large quantities of valium at me (i'm am only 20), to no avail. I'm quite sick of it and I want to go down another avenue.

Anyone have Ideas on natural remedies even tips.
A close friend suggested carrying around an MP3 player and just listen to music and it helps with anxiety, it works a treat, any other tips or natural remedies.

I suffer severe depression about 3 times a year and moderate depression about once a month.

I recommend lots of sunshine. No kidding. When I lived in areas that were gray in the winter (Boston and Dayton) I found I suffered more extended depression.

Stay away from people who only complain. Stay away from the evening news. Again, this is my personal experience. If you are an empathetic person, hearing awful stories or from people who only see the negative, it will bring your mood down a notch.

Stay away from processed sugars. The physical and emotional crash after will bring you down a notch.

Start a physical fitness regimen. I play soccer and jog. The endorphins help tremendously to help take the edge off the more severe bouts of depression. I find that the exercise helps, and the companionship of the team sport is usually refreshing.

Laugh often. No kidding, just the act of laughing even for no reason sometimes can help. It can't hurt.

Tell yourself often that anything that doesn't kill someone or cost you a years pay isn't worth sweating over. Stress from work, relationships, and the world in general just isn't as important as we make it out to be most of the time. We shouldn't let life affect our moods.

I know this sounds awful, but sometimes when I get just a little down I think about how terrible other people in the world have it. Imagine living in Baghdad now, or in Rowanda about a decade ago, or in areas hit by any number of natural disasters or wars. As bad as life may look for any of us, there are people living through worse and making things work.

Above all, keep your chin up and think happy thoughts. I know it is hard, but your brain is the strongest part of your body and you are strong enough to overcome this.

does warm milk help you fall asleep? if so how warm does it have to be and is it not good? what can i mix with it? do i warm it up on stove or in the microwave. im trying to find ways to help me sleep.

Milk when it is heated slowly releases an enzyme that will make you sleepy. Just like turkey has triptophane to to the same thing. And use the stove and very low heat. Try putting a little cinnamon in but no sugar!

the article was on yahoo's home page (news), and it dealt with the percentage of people who suffer from insomnia. Within the article, you could read about a research done by some group whereby they ranked the top ten pills/medicine according to effectiveness, side effects, value, etc., etc, I am looking for the name of the ranking # 1. Can not remember it, but it was a natural combination of different herbs and "stuff". Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I do not believe in medicine.

Here, are the 10 ways to combat insomnia.

1. Drink Warm milk
2.Going to bed and wake/get up at a regular, scheduled time every day (including weekends) with a schedule before getting to bed (i.e. movie, shower, book, bed)
3. Never go to bed angry. Try hard not to fight before bed time.
4. Exercise throughout the day, but not within 2 hours before regular bedtime
5. Light Yoga /meditation before attempting to sleep
6. No eating after 7 PM if your bed time is 11 PM
7. Play a soothing CD containing ocean wave sound and mild and mellow sounds of the nature.
8. Read a book in bed
9. No "light" nap in the afternoon. No sleep anytime during the day or just before bedtime.
10. Train your brain to think that bedroom is for sleeping. All activities other than sleeping should be outside of the bedroom.

People think 'pill-popping' is a cure all. Far from it. You get dependant. But "training" your system to go to sleep works best and it is also good for you.

I'v been working with crystals for a little while and I'v found them quite useful, but I'm not quite sure which crystals help with getting rid of insomnia and unnecessary worrying. If you know, please tell me.

I would use any crystal that is purple or violet.
Also, purchase a worry stone or polished stone made of hematite. make sure and have a small black pouch to keep it in and not let anyone else use it. Before bed, hold it in your hands. The stone should feel cool or cold to touch. Start to relax and focus all of your negativities or stress release into the stone. Once you feel the hematite is warm or hot to touch, place it back in the pouch and store it away. Then get back in a relaxed position and get your purple/voilet crystal out and either place it in your pillow case or hold it in your hand or wear it around your neck. This should help recharge your energy and balance and help you get a better nights sleep.
Make sure to cleanse your hematite and crystals every week to purify them.

OK, I have an awful cold and I'm nursing a 2 month old. With my first kid (who is 2 now) I had colds but took OTC medicine since if I got drowsy I could sleep with the baby. But now I have a toddler to watch and I feel awful!!! Does anyone know any remedies for a head cold that is safe while I'm nursing and won't make me drowsy? I live in the middle of nowhere so common things around the house would be AWESOME!!! Thanks!

Firstly if you have problems making enough milk stay away from peppermint, mint, and menthol.

Garlic and ginger "tea" will boost your immune system. Just simmer garlic and ginger. You can also use powdered ginger to make tea (not powdered garlic though -ewwwwwww)

There is a good discussion of natural and OTC treatments for cough, cold, and allergies that are safe during breastfeeding here:

I've had insomnia all my life but last year started having headaches everyday. My family doctor finally sent me to a neurologist. After 2 eeg's, the neurologist says I have a seizure disorder and wants me to start keppra. I am really afraid of all medications. Any help out there? Thanks!!

Perhaps. I have had insomnia since I was 16. I am now 56. The first med the docs prescribed for this was klonopin, which is also used for seizures and panic disorder. For a list of everything I've tried for sleep and how it worked for me, see http://www.fms-help.com/sleep.htm My insomnia story is at http://www.fms-help.com/insomnia.htm

I do hope your headaches will go away soon. A lot of people with fibromyalgia have bad headaches. As you may know, fibromyalgia can be caused by lack of restorative sleep. My fibromyalgia story is at http://www.fms-help.com/fibro.htm if you want to compare symptoms.
