I have a female, 12 year old Entlebucher Sennenhund who has developed incontinence in her later years. She is able to control her bladder until she goes to sleep, then she urinates in her sleep. Does anyone have any natural remedies for incontinence in an older dog? Our research says she probably needs hormones, however we are hesitant to start her on this type treatment due to her age.

Is there a wholistically oriented vet in your area?

I have tried everything that has been suggested to me in the past….. I quit smoking!! yay…. I eat earlier…. I stay away from caffinated drinks after 4pm. I probably don't exercise as much as I need to, but I stay busy during the day. I have gotten to where I take 50mg of Benadryl every night just to help me sleep, but it's no use….. It's almost 1am and here I am looking for ANSWERS!!! Any new suggestions would be most appreciated…. and btw the guys out there that suggest a rigorous sexfest….. that doesn't work either!! :(
I have the same problem. I took benadryl sooo much like about 8 of them a night for them to work because i started becomeing immune to them. You need to go to a sleep doctor and that'll help you. You shouldn't be taking benadryl. To much causes damage to your liver. Go to the doctor find out what the problem is and when you're trying to fix it they will most likely give you real sleeping pills (that really work). But go to the doctor and find out other options besides taking medication.

I suffer from Insomnia, from as early as I can remember. I have tried alot of things like relaxation, not getting on the internet before bed time, reading a boring book, etc. I use Tylenol PM, (2) every night in order to get a good nights rest, even though I know that it is harmful to my liver. I have taken them for the past 4 years now. I am looking for other alternatives, herbal, home remedies, anything that will help with this problem. Thanks in advance!
Do I need a prescription for melatonin?
Wanted to mention also that sometimes I can fall sleep very easily. It is staying asleep that causes me the problems. I wake up every 20 minutes and just stare at the clock. I have wondered also why the Tylenol PM still works as it seems my body would not react to it any longer but without it, I could be up for days. I don't drink coffee, tea, etc. Only water. I have seen 2 Doctors before and they tell me that if Tylenol works, continue on and that is what I am confused about. I don't take any other medications just a vitamin in the mornings. I just don't want to depend on them, like I have been. By the way, I have 2 Elementary aged children, full time business, and a job; so I have to function right everyday. Thanks everyone for your answers!

For one I would highly recommend seeing your doctor about the medication. It is very damaging to your liver with prolonged use. Ask your doc to get you off them with any other means.

In Oriental Medicine, insomnia can be caused by a number of things. It could be that you either have too much going through your mind and you find it hard to shut off, or it could be a nutritional thing that is stimulating your stomach energy.

Either way, your body is out of balance. If you can get yourself to an Acupuncturist or a good Shiatsu therapist they should not only be able to help physically with re-balancing things, but also be able to recommend lifestyle changes to help bring you back to balance.

I wish I could help but without further information and seeing you personally I would not be able to make a diagnosis. I have successfully treated many people with Insomnia, not one person has had te same treatment plan however.

Some good natural remedies that can help include:
* Warm milk and nutmeg about 20 minutes before going to bed
* A brisk walk and 10 minute cool down with stretches before going to bed
*Keeping yourself more active throughout te day so your body actually 'craves' rest.
* Brething and Yoga stretches for the lmphatic system
* Avoid stimulants after 7pm (coffee, most tea, sugar)

In the end, insomnia is not just a condition that can be fixed with a drug or herb, it is a result of an un-balanced lifestyle, so the way to fix it is changing something with the cause, not the effect.

Hope this helps, please let me know how you go

I actually bought one a long time ago. Tried to watch it twice. I could not get past the first 15 or so minutes and even that was a chore. It was bad, very bad. Critics said he was a grade B actor, I think they were being kind.

It will either put you to sleep or put you in a coma. lol

Im being so depress lately and I find it hard to sleep. I spent my nights surfing and chatting online or watching movies on tv.

The best natural remedy for insomnia I've found is Dr. Dave's Sleep Wizard (just plug those terms into a search engine to find it). Basically, it's a mixture of melatonin, GABA and some other stuff. Very effective.

When it comes to prescription meds, stay the hell away from them, for the most part. They are dangerous, addictive and will screw up your sleep cycle for years after you stop taking them. They will also leave you feeling stoned and and unable to concentrate for days after your last dose.

There is one exception. There is a new drug named Rozerem that was just released this year. Unlike all other prescription sleep medications, it's not a narcotic. It's more like a type of super-melatonin. It does not make you feel dopey or sleepy in any way, is not addictive and research so far shows it to be completely safe. Taking it is weird (I've suffered from extreme insomnia for years). You take it and feel absolutely nothing at all. But, you fall asleep where you didn't before. Good stuff.

Also, you need to practice good "sleep hygiene". Things like working on a computer, playing video games and watching TV all dramatically interfere with sleep. Don't do any of these things for at least 3 hours before you go to bed. Don't leave the TV on while trying to fall asleep (MANY people do this to help them sleep but are actually making their insomnia dramatically worse). Also, never use your bed for anything except sleep and sex. Don't lie in bed during the day. Don't watch TV from bed. Don't read in bed etc. Stay the hell out of bed until bed time.

I suffer from insomnia and am looking for a home remedy. Came across Wilsen sisters food cure and they guarantee a cure. Please help. thanks

Strange as it may sound, try cutting up a raw onion and placing it underneath your pillow at night. Some folks swear that it helps them to fall asleep. If that's too close for comfort, then cut up a yellow onion and put it a glass jar, covering it with a lid, and have it available at your bedside. When you have trouble getting to sleep, take a sniff of the onions, which assist you in dozing off.

Try using "melatonin." It is available from General Nutrition Center or other health/vitamin stores. Take one tab 30 min. before bed.

It is a natural product that your body produces during the day. As we get older, we produce less and, therefore, sleep less. It has been studied by NASA for astronauts and it is also used by some blind people to help them with their circadian rhythms.
